Welcome to our 16th lesson. Today we're going to read interesting facts about names, particularly about CRAZY NAMES.

1- Read the article and answer the questions (page 34 SB)




a- Which people's unusual names do we often hear about?

b- What reason did a New Zealand judge give for not allowing some names?

c- What did Mariléika dos Santos decide to do?

d-What did she become well known for?

e- Why did David Carradine give his son an unusual name?

In the text there were examples of two modals you are familiar with: CAN and MUST. Do you remember when to use them? Let's read the rule:


2- Rewrite the sentences using modal verbs from this unit and the pronouns in brackets. There is often more than one possible answer (page 35 SB)

Welcome to our 15th lesson. Let's begin by checking the activities you had to do last class.

ACTIVITY 3:
1- Companies think a lot about a brand name because it's what distinguishes their product from all the others, and it's difficult to change one so it's important that they get it right the first time.

2- A good brand name is unique, memorable and easy to understand. It should create an emotional connection with the people who buy it.

3- a- Jaguar was chosen becaue it makes people think of a beautiful but dangerous wild cat.
b- Pret a Manger was chosen because it's in a foreign language (French) and therefore sounds special and different.
c- WhatsApp was chosen because it uses wordplay (it is based on the English expression "What's up?")

4- Nova was a bad name for a car in Spain because in Spanish, "no va" means "it doesn't go".

5- Some teenagers choose to buy more expensive products because they want to have something with the right brand or logo.

Welcome to our 14th lesson! Today you have the test of unit 2, so click and do your best! 




After the test we're going to begin unit 3: What's in a name?


Look at the names and logos. What do you think this unit is going to be about?







1- They are brand names. Do you think they are important? Let's read and listen to a blog entry (page 31SB)





2- Copy and look up in a dictionary any word/ phrase you don't know or understand from the text.

3- Answer these questions about the blog:
1- Why do companies think a lot about a brand name?

2- What makes a good brand name?

3- Why were each of these names chosen?

Writers use a new paragraph when they want to change the topic. The opening line of a paragraph usually gives you a clue about its topic.

4- You will present your investigation to the class next Friday on  zoom. Use the pictures to help you describe the events.

Work with the activities on pages 28 and 29 in the SB (all except for Speaking Part 1: Interview) They are revision activities. We're going to check them on the zoom class DON'T SEND THEM to my mail. I want to see you all in class next Friday. Remember that if you don't participate in the zoom classes you'll have an ABSENT that class.

Hello! Welcome to our 12th lesson!

Today we're going to revise PAST TENSES and also learn some new vocabulary.

Let's read and refresh our memory:



1- Underline the correct tense:

3- DESCRIPTIVE VERBS. Certain verbs make narratives sound more dramatic. Find these words in a dictionary and write down:
